Thanks, Mia. I think I probably looked like that beetle when I tried hang gliding when I as a teenager. The were many banzai moments in my brief ventures into hang gliding.
Surprisingly enough, I did manage to survive my youth. During my motorcycle years, I got a lot of inspiration from Evel Knievel. That’s probably as much as you need to know to understand the first sentence.
Believe it or not, I never broke a bone crashing motorcycles, but I got some very nasty cuts and gashes that were more life threatening than I would care to think about these days. I also walked away from crashes that were nothing short of miracles that I survived — I once hit the ground so hard from a high jump, the impact snapped my motorcycle’s frame and bent the bike in half. I had a heck of a time getting my broken motorcycle home. Then bending it back straight and welding it back together was a challenge, also, but I managed to do it. Being a young man, I carried on from where I left off once I got the motorcycle back to working again.
I did learn how to fall with minimal damage to myself from all those years of crashing on motorcycles when I was a kid. I think that experience saved me from serious injuries when I got into high speed crashes racing bicycles as an adult.
But alas, cat herding, photography and making iffy parodies is about as exciting and dangerous as my life gets these days.
Tim Knievel, amazing no broken bones. Sounds like it was a fun daredevil time in your life, and a snapped frame wasn’t going to stop you. Glad you survived the high speed racing without any serious injuries.
It’s all good, photography, parodies, and cat herding, which can be a dangerous job, not for the fair of heart.
