On the evening of the last Saturday of the Balloon Fiesta, we walked out to the river and watched the fireworks show set off at the balloon field on the opposite bank of the Rio Grande. All the photos were taken using a Canon 1Ds with a 70-200mm L lens, zoomed to 200mm, ƒ/4, 1/60 sec at ISO 100, hand held.

Beautiful, and so impressive at hand held!!
Thanks, Susan!
Those are beautiful! Sounds like you and Laurie had a wonderful day out all around! My favorite is the second photo. I love the green against the black night sky. My favorite terminal window colors as well. 🙂
Thanks, Lavinia!
Wow! These are amazing! I have always wanted to capture fireworks! Beautiful!
Thanks, Michelle. Fireworks are pretty easy to photograph. Once you find the right exposure, it’s mostly timing. Although the auto focus can act up a bit with fireworks.
Oh my gosh. I spend most of my time fighting with everything. I think I need to preplan better. I’ll just enjoy yours! I’ll stick to sunset and sunrises. They don’t move quick! 😀
Fabulous….I love fireworks.
Thanks, Janet!
Stelle che si accendono per rallegrare la notte della festa. Belle! Marisa
Stelle che si accendono per rallegrare la festa. Bello! Marisa Cossu
Thanks, Marisa! Fireworks do certainly light up a party! Especially the Balloon Fiesta! 😉
Those are amazing! I’ve often tried taking pictures of fireworks, but the smoke always seems to drown out the light. Which makes your photos even more impressive!
Thanks, Nicholas. I was a couple miles from the fire works, so the smoke would have been easy to filter out in the processing, but I liked the effect. Iif I would have been on the field where they were setting off the fireworks, the smoke would have been a big problem.
Ah, so that’s the secret… Thanks for sharing! Next time I’ll stand far away and carry a big zoom 🙂
You got it 😉
lovely captures.
Thanks, Imelda!
Fantastic pictures. Wow
Thanks!
