Venus shines through clouds reflecting city lights in pre-dawn darkness.

Clouds and contrails in the late afternoon.

Clouds breaking up at sunset.

Black lace at dusk

Jupiter shines through clouds reflecting city lights in post-dusk darkness.

Frosted Flake

Venus, the Moon, and I rose at the same time this morning.

Twenty-four degrees
I stood out in my skivvies
Like a frosted flake

Venus and the Moon shapeshifted through the glass.

The various crescents are moonlight fractured by condensation on the glass. Venus made some mean-looking faces.

Back to normal

Venus and the Moon at dawn.

Lower left to top: Orion, Kiss Flying-V, and The Pleiades. Top right: Jupiter.

Brad mentioned seeing The Pleiades in yesterday’s photo meant Orion was not far behind. I’ve taken many photos with Orion in them recently, but I haven’t posted Orion in a while.

Déjà Foo

Moon rising behind clouds

The persistence of “the same as it ever was” is alive and well. Photos of night-time, the moon, planets, dawn, sunset, and dusk prevail. It’s déjà foo† all over again. And again. And again. And again…

Venus at dawn

Moon at dawn

Silver-lined clouds near sunset

Water backed up behind a beaver dam in the Cleatwater ditch

Gigi’s tree with clouds at sunset.

Cranes flying to roost at dusk

†Foo is a metasyntactic variable used to represent an unspecified entity (how I currently identify). It can be used to name entities such as variables, functions, and commands whose exact identity is unimportant and serves only to demonstrate a concept…

Night Rider

Dawn. Venus was still bright.

Reminiscent of nights gone by
Once again, riding in the dark
Eyes shine ahead
Coyotes and cows are split
By a sharp beam of light
Scamper into darkness
Only owls break the silence
As cold air rolls off the mountains
Splashing over the levee
Drenched in frigid air
Consumed by darkness

Sagebrush, cottonwood, and Jupiter rising.

Cottonwoods reach down and grab at you in the dark.

Light from a creature or spirit up ahead.

Dusk with lots of colorful particulate in the air.

Writing’s On The Wall

pTerodactyl stands vigil
Over a dying pond
Reflecting on things to come
He saw the writing on the wall

Writing’s On The Wall
(Daniel 5:24-28†)
By Timothy Price

[Verse]
You should beware of the words, man
As they were written by a bloodless hand
You see, if you don’t change your ways
You’ll succumb to what the inscription says

[Chorus]
‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
Oh, the writing’s on the wall
‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
It’s a prophecy of your fall
‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
God is going to end it all
‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
He won’t hear you when you call

[Bridge]
‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
‘M’ne!’ — God has counted up your kingdom
‘M’ne!’ — brought it to an end
‘T’kel’ — you’re weighed on the balance
‘T’kel’ — scale and come up short
‘P’res’ — your kingdom’s been divided given
Given — to the Medes and the Persians

[Verse]
You should beware of the words, man
As they were written by a bloodless hand
You see, if you don’t change your ways
You’ll succumb to what the inscription says

[Chorus]
‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
Oh, the writing’s on the wall
‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
it’s a prophecy of your fall
‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
God is going to end it all
M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin’
He won’t hear you when you call

24 This is why he sent the hand to write this inscription; 25 and the inscription says, ‘M’ne! M’ne! T’kel ufarsin.’ [a] 26 This is what it means: ‘M’ne!’ — God has counted up your kingdom and brought it to an end. 27 T’kel’ — you are weighed on the balance-scale and come up short. 28 P’res’ — your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.” (Complete Jewish Bible).
