The Longest Mile

Well! Five point seven/eights miles to be more precise. While it’s only a mile and a half between mile marks as the river flows, and the treks to the river and back, plus all the winding around on different paths in the bosque added up. This was the longest walk Jake has made with me since he moved in.

One

Beaver point is at the 194.5 mile mark

Surprisingly, I saw a dragonfly. The temperature was around 48º F (~9º C).

Two

Bushwacking on our way to Three

Three. A couple of dragonflies lying eggs in the shallows.

Four

On the way to Five

Six

The Portal to Seven. Seems all portals look the same!

Seven

Jake recharged his pee-shoot in the Rio Grande by a cocklebur bush at the 194-mile marker.

Eight

Søren seemed impressed. Or not!

Spunk: “Why take a stinking 6-mile walk in the bosque when you can lounge in fresh-dried underwear?”

Silver: “Whoa! I can’t beieve you made Jake walk that far!”

Jake was a little slow after his long mile, and got caught in the skeeter net again.

A couple of women were walking five dogs and let two loose to chase the coyotes. Jake was not happy about those dogs chasing his coyote pals.

Old & Gray

People have been asking me to return to my “Bloody Awful” roots of me vocalizing my songs. I believe Old & Gray, in my own Redneck Metal style, is pretty much on bloody awful par with my pre-AI vocals music (lyrics at the end of the post).

Old and Gray
By Timothy Price

[Verse 1]
I have a parrot on my hand
And a cat on my lap
I’m not sure life
Can get much better than that

[Chorus]
I may be old, I may be gray
I may have seen my better days
But I can still enjoy the simple ways
Of life with birds, life with cats
And a big ‘ol yellow dog named Jake

[Verse2]
When simple pleasures come my way
I savor them from day to day
As life slows down
Time moves much faster
I teeder on the edge of disaster

[Bridge]
It’s been said that as you age
You become like a fine wine
But truth be told, and I can say
You become a first class whiner

[Chorus]
I may be old, I may be gray
I may have seen my better days
But I can still enjoy the simple ways
Of life with birds, life with cats
And a big ‘ol yellow dog named Jake

[Bridge]
It’s been said that as you age
You become like a fine wine
But truth be told, and I can say
You become a first class whiner

[Outro]
Old and gray, stuck in my ways
But with the birds, and cats
And ‘ol yeller Jake in the mix
This old dog can learn a few new tricks

Standing

After I finished intensive chemo in 2010, I complained to my oncologist about not having feeling in my fingertips or toes. I asked when the feeling would return. She said probably never. I gave her a disappointed look and grumbled about it. She said, “It’s better than the alternative. Stop complaining, you’re still standing above the ground!” She was right. I had no right to complain. She had saved my life, and following her instructions, I never got sick or had any complications that I’d heard so many people had with chemo. After my second bout with cancer, and even more intense chemo than I had with the first bout, there was no chance of regaining much feeling in my fingertips.

As one might imagine, playing the guitar with numb fingertips is challenging. I started relearning to play the guitar in 2018. I wrote the lyrics to Standing in 2019, but never got a tune or music worked out that I liked. I gave AI Music the lyrics and the parameters for the music, and I finally got a song I liked.

Søren knows what it’s like to be standing!

Standing
By Timothy Price

Verse 1
Numb and swollen fingers
Fumble on the strings
I can’t feel the music
I’m Lost in sonic spaces

Verse 2
My guitar rings in my ears
I struggle with the sound
I’m trying to make some music
A joyful noise is what comes out

Chorus
But I won’t complain
And I won’t shed tears
It’s a miracle
That I’m still here
I won’t go down
Or get torn usunder
Becase I’m still standing
Above the ground

Bridge
Errant notes dangle
Then they Fall
Slipped off strings
And fingerboard
They lie scattered
Across the floor
They’re silenced
Under foot

Otro
Numb and swollen fingers
Still fumble on the strings
I still can’t feel the music
I’m still lost in sonic spaces

The Last Picture! Oh?

P1010002

These photos of Beaker are the last pictures I’ll ever take…

…with my first digital camera, that is — an old Olympus C-5050. I was testing the telephoto attachment to make sure it was still sharp before I put the camera and accessories on the auction block. The last photo shows the camera with all the accessories I used with it. The Olympus C-5050 was my only camera from 2003 to 2009. I sold all my film cameras soon after buying the C-5050 in 2003, then 6 years later, I bought a Lumix L10 body with a 28-100mm zoom lens in October 2009. The Olympus C-5050 served me well for all those years, but I hadn’t touched it for over 5 years, until today when I got it out and tested it to see if it was still working. It worked great, and will soon have a new home.

Waiting on a Waffle/Breakfast with Guildenstern

A18W0573

I had to get out my 17mm, super-wideangle lens to get a photo of Beaker impatiently waiting for the waffle that’s in the toaster oven. You can see the tips of his wings are a little blurry because he is fluttering them in anticipation. Guildenstern got up on the table, flopped himself down and waited to see what Laurie was having for breakfast. He wasn’t too sure about either the granola or the coffee.

Waffle Time For Beaker (WTFB). While I was heating up a waffle in the toaster oven, Beaker stood on the edge of his shelf impatiently watching the waffle through the glass door on the oven. When the waffle was done, Beaker tore off a piece and ate it on the edge of his shelf not bothering to take it to his food dish like he usually does. Even though he loves waffles, he will not eat them cold. They either need to be straight off the waffle iron, or toasted.

I finished putting up wire around the new roof on the catio, so now it’s reopened for kitty business. The new roof is lower, covers a 12 X 16 feet area, and is translucent, so even in the late afternoon there is plenty of light under the roof. The top of the kitty jungle gym is now almost three feet higher than the end of the roof, so the kitties now have open space all around, and a full 360º view from the top of their jungle gym.
