Got Comet?

Full Moon behind clouds and Resa’s Tree

I tried to get the Tsuchinshan-ATLAS comet the last few nights. It should have been in the top third, just right of center, but I could only see a few stars and wormy-looking clouds.

Letting sleeping cats lie

We’ve had a lot of wind the past few days—ripply water on the Rio Grande.

Sunset

Late breaking news. As Tristan was leaving tonight, she noticed “fireworks” to the north of us. The fireworks were the wind blowing the neighbor’s tree branches in the powerlines, causing them to arc. I called the fire department, and they sent three fire trucks to check it out. The wind died down by the time the fire department arrived, so they didn’t get to see the show, but they could see where the branches had been arcing on the powerlines. The power company is supposed to come out after they finish restoring a power outage and trim back the branches.

Water My World

I went out at 3:30 in the morning to put down the gate and let the irrigation water in. A half moon peaked out between the clouds, providing just enough light to get a photo of the gate in the main canal. The ditches I dug over the weekend worked really well to efficiently distribute the water where I needed it. The water was moving very slowly when I put down the gate, so it took over two hours before it ran over the gate to provide enough pressure to really push the water through through the ditches. I had good water pressure for about an hour before someone upstream took the water, but that was enough time to get almost everything watered thanks to my new ditch system.

Spooky Side of Aix

A18W6472

We walked around Aix in the rain all day on May 18th. The wet, gray weather added to the erie starkness of the old Castaño trees lining the edge of a park. Death followed a poor soul through the streets, and the moonlight in the clearing night sky lit an ancient church on our walk home late in the night. Aix-en-Provence, May 18, 2013.

Flowers & Phantasms

RosesLilies

Laurie distributed the flowers and roses from Reyes around the house adding extra color, beauty and cheerfulness to each room. I got up in the wee hours of the morning to find one of the ghosts lying on the floor under Laurie’s robe. I thought Laurie was laying on the floor in the darkness, but I could see she was still in bed with cats on her as they were light the moonlight streaming through the window. I grabbed my camera and set it to high ISO, ghost mode and snapped some photos. The phantasm filled out the body of the robe, but it had no head, arms or feet. When I pushed on the robe, there was nothing solid under it to fill it out, but it was filled out, and the robe would pop back into shape when I took my hand off — I thought I heard a faint giggle each time I poked it, but I would not swear by it. When I got up in the morning the robe was laying flat on the floor — I guess the spirit, warm and comforted by the robe, had gone off to wherever it hangs out during the day.
