Must Ask You To Leave

TheCubist

I had to meet a guy at a call center, and while I was waiting I noticed the Sandias reflecting on the building were nicely cubist, so I snapped a photo. I waited almost 10 minutes after I took the photo for the person I was meeting to show up. Soon after he came out, a security guard came walking up from the other direction and when he got up to where we were standing, he told me “Photographing the building is not allowed. I must ask you to leave!”  The person I was meeting with said “Oh! Really? I didn’t know that!” I left right after that, but I find these supposed “no photographing buildings” policies to be very strange — when I looked up the address on Google maps, there was a nice, extremely clear satellite image of the building, and “street view” images of the building. When I got home, I looked up Google Images using the address and found a lot of photographs of the building that were taken on the property, as well. Despite what the guard told me, photographing the building is very much allowed, because there are images of it all over the Internet.

Turtles

Between photographing Katarina, Jackie, David and Rudy playing with the kids in Family Promise on Saturday, I photographed the turtles sunning themselves under the partly cloudy sky, and swimming around in the duck pond. Thinking about the turtles, and all the playing and happiness those kids and students were having spending the afternoon together reminded me of The Turtles song “So Happy Together” — www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv85y08aA2w

Old Trucks and Tulips

TwoTulips

A couple of old trucks and a pair of tulips dancing. Speaking of dance, tonight at 7:00 pm we are having our monthly salsa dance with classes at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd NE. The dance and classes are free and all ages are welcome.

Middle March

PurpleCrocus1

Here we are nearly to the middle of March and the temperature was 15 degrees F this morning at our house. Despite the frosty mornings, the crocus are blooming and the tulips are poking through the mulch, teasing us with anticipation of their first blooms.

Seventy-Six Twenty-Three

SeventySixTwentyThree

This was really a Garfield Monday — between dealing with dead computers, staff panics, kernel panics, intermittent mice and funky variables, I think Bruce and I managed to get a little bit of work done.  I drive by the  window in the last photo almost daily, and never really paid much attention to it, until tonight when I noticed it looked like an aquarium.

Light of Rose

Cleaning out a travel trailer this morning, I found an old scale and iron that made for a nice vintage B&W photo. We had strong winds all day today that blew clouds overhead. At one point the clouds were thick and low, and looked like they might produce a little rain, but alas no, only cold, dry wind.

Scratch that Itch

StretchScratching

I was trying to get Stretch to pose for a photo, which he wasn’t in the mood for, so he scratched an itch in defiance. The light and clouds were dramatic on the way in to work this morning, as was the light on a bicycle locked to the grating at 3rd and Gold.

Black Cats on White

Puck On White

We had to wash our down comforter, and we haven’t put the pink cover back on it, so the black cats have been really enjoying laying around on the clean comforter, napping hard to get it dirty again. Before we got the comforter dry, we had wooly, “cat magnet” blankets on the bed which Rosencrantz, Guildenstern and Diné enjoy lounging around on.

Tuesday morning the analog thermometer read -12 degrees F and our pipes were freezing up. Wednesday morning dropped below zero as well, but to look at it optimistically, it was only half as cold at -6 degrees F.  The weather widget is forecasting a low of only 18 for tonight — one can only hope — but it really means our low will be around 8 maybe lower since the temperatur is already down to 10.  The high for tomorrow is supposed to be 46, which may well happen — a heat wave.  I’m still waiting for global warming to kick in on our property, because it just does not seem to be happening for us.
