Rammed Earth & Native Grasses

“This integral arrangement — minimalist home of rammed earth walls, plus native grasses — works perfectly as a unit.” reads the introduction to the writeup on the Roger and Mary Downey Garden for the Corrales Garden Tour we went on last weekend. The house sits in the center of the property surrounded by native grasses. Since this is only late spring, the grasses are just starting to grow. The grasses are best seen in the fall when they have reached their full heights and display their varied colors — colors that are reflected in the rammed earth construction of the house.

Our deck is officially open, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern celebrated by lying around on the table giving me the cat’s paw view.

Parapet Down

In preparation to raze the burned out flamenco building, workers tore out the parapet wall from Patrician Design’s building in order to detach the flamenco building’s roof from the two buildings firewalls. The workmen also sawed out portions of the front and back of the flamenco building to detach the structures’ vertical attachments. The workers labored under a sunny sky throughout the day, but then the sky became overcast with ominous inklings of rain after the workmen had retired for the day.

After The Smoke

This is the upstairs portion of our office after the smoke was cleaned up, the walls painted and the offices reoccupied. The first three photos are the same spaces pictured in the first three photos on my blog As the Smoke Churns from January 7, 2014 that shows the smoke damage from the Flamenco fire at the end of the block on December 18, 2013.

Waiting on a Waffle/Breakfast with Guildenstern

I had to get out my 17mm, super-wideangle lens to get a photo of Beaker impatiently waiting for the waffle that’s in the toaster oven. You can see the tips of his wings are a little blurry because he is fluttering them in anticipation. Guildenstern got up on the table, flopped himself down and waited to see what Laurie was having for breakfast. He wasn’t too sure about either the granola or the coffee.
