A Very Small Array

New Mexico has the VLA near Socorro – a very large array of radio telescopes for viewing the cosmos. We have a VSA in our garden – a very small array of cosmos.   Speaking of the cosmos, the low sun shining through the clouds on I-40 was quite a scene.

After an extremely adventurous outing this afternoon, a tow truck dropped us and my car off at the Mazda dealer at 10:30 pm. We left the car in the service parking lot, dropped the keys in the after hours key-drop, Tristan picked us up, and we got home at 11:30 pm.

Old Adobes

After our trip to Jemez and Gliman Tunnels, I got photos of old adobe houses in Corrales and San Ysidro. The first two are in Corrales and both are doing worse after the major storm that hit Corrales at the end of July. The last photo is of an abandoned adobe house in San Ysidro.

Between Jemez Pueblo and Jemez Springs is the junction of NM 4 and NM 485. New Mexico 485 heads west and then north through Gilman and Port and reconnects with NM 4 north of La Cueva. The old adobe in Gilman has a red mud plaster from the red soils found in the Jemez. The red cliffs and prickly pear cactus are at the mouth of the Rio Guadalupe Canyon.

Continuing on our drive to Jemez, we could see the thunderheads over our destination. The junction of US 550 and State Road 4 is at San Ysidro. The San Ysidro Church has perfect Spanish Colonial/New Mexican style doors and a great little bell tower.
