I be’d my own one-man long-haired redneck road crew this morning, and filled up all the potholes in the road that had developed from the little rain and snow we’ve got in November, and the freezing every night and thawing every day. I scraped ten wheelbarrow loads of base course and gravel off the edges of the road to fill in the potholes, and then dumped another 30 or so wheelbarrows of sand I dug out of the ditch bank to fill the areas that had sunk over the culvert. I walked three miles pushing that wheelbarrow back and forth for two hours.

Hanging Paintings On The Wall

One of the most significant things I’ve done, besides playing with birds, Jake, and the cats, during my Christmas vacation, is that I picked up three large paintings from Tristan’s house and took them to the office. Laurie painted them years ago. I hung two 4X6 foot (122 X 183 cm) paintings in the open work area where there is a drop ceiling. I have hardware that allows me to hang the paintings from the ceiling rails. The two walls large enough for the 6X9 foot (183 X 274 cm) painting do not have drop ceilings. Therefore, once we decide where to hang the larger painting, I will have to use brackets to hang it. I put the large painting on the couch and shelf in the foyer, leaning on the wall we could hang it on, until we decide where we will hang it.

Little Green Bags

Since we’ve adopted Jake, I spend a lot of time carrying little green bags of dog poop around with me when we are out on walks. The old song “Little Green Bag” by the Dutch band George Baker Selection came to mind one day, so I wrote parody lyrics about those little green bags of dog poop. I recorded the parody, and Jake and I made the above music video.

Silver: “It’s your own fault for adopting a dog. Pathetic poopy paparazzo!”

Gwendolyn: “Whoa! You really pick up that crap? At least with us kitties, you use a slotted scoop to clean the kitty litter.”

Spunk: “Well, pathetic poopy paparazzo. Your doggedness has done you in!”

While I’m off work for the holidays, Jake misses his ride to and from the office every day. He goes outside and sits by my car, waiting to go to work. When we don’t go to the office, he acts disappointed, so I’ve started taking Jake for a ride in the car every day while I’m on vacation. Today we came across a cluck of cranes.
