  1. Is this technique to focus kind of like HDR is to exposure (except much more complex)? Is there a name for it yet? Fascinating results!

    • It’s called “macro image stacking” as far as I can tell. I’m using a software called Helicon to do the stacking. Photoshop CS 5 has the capability to do image stacking, but I didn’t really figure out how to do it very well in CS 5 when I found Helicon.

  2. -The top image is well suitable for the technique. As with conventional photography, it helps to create areas of interest. These areas can eg be created by using shallow dof. Now the image with the yellow flower has all parts in focus, thus the eye is not really guided and lost in all details. On the other hand the top image has 2 natural roi’s created by the composition. And here the technique helps a lot because with conventional technique the most near and most remote places would usually be un focussed and here with the new technique both are in focus, supporting the natural attention guiding composition.
    Recap, good technique is useful when applied in the right kind of image/composition.
