As you might have heard, there are a lot of fires burning in New Mexico right now. The air was very smokey today, therefore, I mostly stayed inside and recorded a parody I wrote a while back after I bought new $48 guitar out of curiosity. The guitar turned out to be a lot better quality than one would expect for $48.

If you are wondering why New Mexico is burning. Warm temperatures and low humidity are the major factors. New Mexico and most of the western states have had very little precipitation this year.

Jupiter moved to one o’clock above Venus this morning.

48 Bucks
By Timothy Price
To Sixteen Tons by Tennesse Ernie Ford
I got a cheap guitar still made out of wood
It came with all six strings just like it should?
I paid 48 bucks I give you no bone
The neck is straight let’s check out the tone
You pay 48 bucks and what do you get?
A gig bag, Allen wrench, and a straight neck
The craftsmanship’s sketchy little rough on the wood
But it plays pretty well and it sounds pretty good
Got an email one mornin’ cheap guitars so fine
I checked out the website, it’s one of a kind
Guitars so cheap you wonder how they will do
Curiosity got to me, put in an order for two
You pay 48 bucks and what do you get?
A gig bag, Allen wrench, and a straight neck
The craftsmanship’s sketchy little rough on the wood
But it plays pretty well and it sounds really good
Been playing every morning come sunshine or rain
Tune it up strum it and it still sounds the same
Playin’ chords and scales and arpeggios
How my fingers play them God only knows
You pay 48 bucks and what do you get?
A gig bag, Allen wrench, and a straight neck
The craftsmanship’s sketchy little rough on the wood
But it plays pretty well and it sounds really good
Now you hear me a playin’ can you lend me your ears
This cheap guitar is better than beer
My fingers feel like lead on these strings of steel
The guitar’s not a bad 48-dollar deal.
You pay 48 bucks and what do you get?
A gig bag, Allen wrench, and a straight neck
The craftsmanship’s sketchy little rough on the wood
But it plays pretty well and it sounds really good
I’ve been hearing about the fires down there in NM. The hot dry air is something we saw up here two years ago. Even northeast New Jersey is having very dry winds right now and there is a fire warning. We’ve been having a cool, wet spring up here that will help us going into summer.
I enjoyed your parody, Tim. The guitar looks a bit like an Ovation, or Ovation clone. Rick and I did not live all that far from the factory when we were back east.
https://www.ovationguitars.com/theovationstory
Thanks, Lavinia. The is an Ovation clone.
I hope the bosque and all its creatures and humans stay safe. I see there is a burn ban in effect.

We keep a close watch.
Wildfires suck but they can lead to beautiful sunsrts!
Thanks, Leenda.
Reminds me on my 68€ T-style electric guitar. Lil bit of setup and it plays like a dream. Sparkly blue paint looks fancy and the original brand name Sanche
Thanks, Orca. The are lots of cheap guitars that with a little work, they are great.
Sanchez, you immediately know it’s made in China. Not entirely Fender quality but lets be honest, Fender quality is highly overrated. I so adore those eager and skillful little people in Shanghai sweatshops.
Lots of Fenders are made in China. American made Fenders are expensive.
“48 Bucks and it plays pretty good”. Nice job Tim!
Wherever did you find this for 48 bucks?
I can’t anymore. It was precovid. Thanks, Cindy.
What a sweet deal! You’re so welcome!
Well, that 48 bucks guitar looks and sounds good. Listening to your new cover song made the buy worthwhile for sure. Wish I could find cheap synths for 48 bucks…
My new Mac Studio arrived a few days ago. But I have to wait for the Studio Display for 2 more weeks.
I’m interested, so pardon my curiosity
Also my ignorance
Why do you need an Allan wrench?
To fine tune your 48bucker
Real cool lyrics, very catch too
Sorry to hear about the fires in your area
Hope it’s all settled now.
Venus and Jupiter at it again.
The is an adjusting rod in the neck of the guitar. The Allen wrench is used to adjust the neck to keep it straight. Thanks, abvr.
Oh i see
I didn’t think it needed a key
Only the fingers when necessary
You are welcome Timothy
That’s exciting. Two more weeks and you’ll be rocking. You can get synth plugins for $48. Thanks, Herman.
This is really good, Tim and wow, what a bargain! I hope the fires go out soon.
What skies though!!!!!
Thanks, Marina.
Well, gotta say burning fires sure bring out the parody big time. Of course it is not funny that places are ablaze but oh dear, I did love your vid. All the poses were brill.
Thanks, Shey.
Very clever!
Thanks, Dawn.
It seems to me that you got one heck of a deal for 48 bucks:). A good friend of mine lives outside of ‘Santa Fe – and so she has been keeping me up to date with the fires….It’s not good although some of the pictures she has sent have been eerily stunning. Thank you for your lovely photographs and the music. Janet 🙂
My boss has a house it Santa Fe and commented on the fires being more of a reality in Santa Fe. We are pretty far removed from the fires in the Albuquerque area for the time being. Thanks, Janet.
Stay safe
FAB parody Tim!!
The vid is a winner!
Love it! Forty eight bucks and it doesn’t suck. 🎼
OMG…I’ve been worried about the fires in New Mexico.
At least I don’t see any smoke in the sky shots!
🤞🤞🤞
Thanks, Resa. There are lots of small communities threatened by the fires.
So sad!
UCH!!
Maybe I do see smoke?
There are always great cloud formations. I might not see what is cloud and what is smoke.
How close are the fires?
The fires are not close to us for the time being. 90 miles away is the closest fire currently.
Good one, Tim! I’m glad you are staying busy and indoors, that smoke isn’t good for anyone.
The smoke is really gets the coughing going. Then everyone thinks the coughing is COVID. Thanks, Tiffany.
Your video is great fun! I hope the wild fires end soon.
Thanks, Liz. The fires probably won’t end soon. Unless we get some May showers, June is usually dry before we start getting monsoon rains in July and August.
You’re welcome, Tim.
Isn’t it great when you buy something for a good price and it is a bargain? A great song, Timothy.
Such a fun Song Tim.. Not a bad deal for 48 bucks.. 😀
Thanks, Sue.
I love the parody. Congrats on the guitar, if anyone can put it to good use it’s you.
I got the guitar before the pandemic. They have almost tripled in price. I recorded a couple of songs with it. Thanks, Holly.
My Dad was a fabulous musician, he sang and played guitar in a band. They had their own half hour show local TV. He had beautiful guitars. Someone broke in and stole them in his later years while he was away. Also his favorite rifle. They ( whoever) are lucky he was not home with his rifle. He was a tough old military guy. 😉
Thieves are such a pain. What is so depressing about thievery is they usually sell the goods they steal for a fraction of their worth. Well it’s good and bad your dad wasn’t home. I can imagine he had a cool classic rifle along with cool classic guitars. My cousin was killed in a construction accident when his son was an infant. His widow held on to my cousin’s 1958 Gibson Les Paul and gave to his son when he turned 21. The guitar fetched enough money for his son to put himself through college.
Talk about getting a lotta bang for your buck. Is that strum? Fun stuff, Tim!
Strum? As in a method for predicting stability changes of a protein upon single-point mutation? Or Strum the guitar. There is an Urban dictionary definition of strum I’m not going to post. Yes a lot of strum in all forms for the bucks. Thanks, Dale.
Well now … You’ve opened that up way more than I originally intended! Now I have to go searching!
Funny Tim! If nothing else, some gig bags are more than 48 bucks. Never know what you are going to get until you sit down with a new guitar and get it really tuned in – bought expensive ones that ended up sounding flat and cheap ones that got the job done.
It’s always a guitar gamble. Thanks, Brian.
I love the song Tim. Hard to believe that guitar was only 48.00 dollars. The sky is gorgeous and I didn’t know that the fires were so bad. It is such a sad thing to me when any fire starts, the damage is just hard for me to wrap my head around. Thanks for this lovely share and blessings to ya’ll.
They are not $48 these days. Thanks, Joni.
Oh this tune is toe tapping good!
Thanks, Julie. Do you know the original “16 Tons” made popular by Tennessee Ernie Ford?
