Kittens Super Chief PRS

You might recall the PRS (Paul Reed Smith) style guitar that I have been building for over a month? It was featured with Marble in Gata Y Blanca with a primer coat, and then again with Marble in She’s Blue with the first blue coat. Now you see the finished guitar is a Super Chief PRS. It was an experiment to see if I could get the skin of the Super Chief locomotive I used on my Train Teles, to fit on the arched and sculpted PRS-style body. It worked out pretty well. The arched top really pops the Super Chief Locomotive. I used different style Zia symbols in the design and added a Zia on the headstock as well.

The music I played on it in the above video is a kind of wild but seemed fitting for as much work as the guitar was to build. It plays pretty well but is not nearly as nice as Resa’s One-Eye Guitars (The Kittens, Spunk & the Kittens Tail), Tiffany’s Tumultuous (Tumultuous Kittens), Marble’s Tele (Marble Guitar), or the Train Teles (Whats on the Tele? I have two Train Teles. One is like Marble’s Tele).

  1. “The Girls” are really growing and are so cute playing together. I enjoyed seeing them drinking from the sink faucet, something Alex loved.
I enjoyed seeing Marble and Silver in the YouTube.
    The guitars are impressive.

  2. Very impressive creation, Timothy. The colored strings are a nice visual. And of course it was delightful listening to your music while enjoying Gwendolyn and Glenda’s antics. I very much appreciate your many talents.

    • Thanks, Maj & Sher. It was the most difficult guitar to build and gave me the most trouble. I need to do quite a bit of work on it to get it to play as nicely as the other guitars. I’l probably change out the pickups and some point also. I’m not sure I like the sound of the pickups I have in it currently.

  3. Hi Tim, the guitars you’re building are fantastic, beautifully decorative. This one really pops. Fun to watch the girls playing along with “Kittens Super Chief PRS”!

  4. The larger question is where do all the toys and laundry baskets on the bed go when it’s time for you and Laurie go to sleep? 😉

      • Waking up with a laundry basket. I heard it does wonders for romance, lol. 🙂

Egypt nearly always brought a toy to bed to play with in the middle of the night. Same is true for Pinky on a semi-regular basis. Less frequent is Susie with a toy. Don’t know about Caitie since she sleeps separate – still have flare-ups between her and Pinky. I’m not interesting in refereeing a late-night UFA fight.

        • Love and laundry baskets living life on the wild side. The kittens have all kinds of toys in bed all the time.

    • Thanks, Marina. I’m not sure how they would respond to the sound of the guitar. I remember the first time I sat down on the couch with Silver and Loki to play my flamenco guitar. The first strum they poofed and scattered.

      • Funny and interesting how our companions react to instruments! Igor [a german pointer we had many years ago -the sweetest dog] loved to listen to violin/viola and cello. He’d come as soon as he’d hear the first note and sit with his head tilted on one side and wouldn’t leave till the last note! 😉

  5. Awesome looking Axe Tim. I like the modality of your lead guitar playing on that piece. The rhythm guitar juxtaposed against the backbeat is cool! BTW. I’m working on your “Cranes in C”. Very interesting time signature (5/4). Not many players I know that can get their minds around odd time signatures. I’m having fun with it. Thanks for the work!

    Your friend and mine…
    Ron |<:^)

    • Thanks, Ron. I was in a modal mood. My fingers are really swollen and hurting from a construction project, so everything was a bit ruff. I can’t wait to hear what you come up with for “Cranes in C”.

  6. The kittens have so much energy and are very cute! The guitar is beautiful. Nice job, Tim! I’m sorry to hear your fingers are swollen and hurting. Feel better soon!

  7. That was a lot of fun, Tim! The guitar sounds good.
OMG!I just adore kittens and cats!
All of your custom guitars are gems. Not a dud in the bunch!

    • Thanks, Resa. As art, all the guitars really work, but for playing, this one didn’t come out quite as well as the others. I think it needs a different set of pickups.

  8. It’s nice to have several cats interacting with one another, i would love to have more than one too. Miss Providence is still very stressed and I must wait to check whether it’s possible to adopt another one.
This guitar is… wow! very very nice!
